Øksnes Church

It is one of the churches for the Øksnes parish which is part of the Vesterålen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland.

The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform style in 1703 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect.

[1][2] The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to 1381, but it was not new that year.

The building was virtually rebuilt from the foundation up, reusing all of the materials that were still in good condition.

A native of Königsberg, Gottfried Ezekiel received a commission as a painter in Bergen during 1744.
