The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone.
Český Dub consists of 15 municipal parts (in brackets population according to the 2021 census):[2] The name literally means 'Bohemian oak' in Czech.

In the middle of the 19th century, the town became a centre of the textile industry thanks to the entrepreneur Franz von Schmitt.
It is a valuable Neorenaissance house, built in 1880–1881, decorated in the style of historicist Art Nouveau.
