Šmarje, Šentjernej

Šmarje (pronounced [ˈʃmaːɾjɛ]; German: Sankt Marein[2]) is a settlement in the Municipality of Šentjernej in southeastern Slovenia.

It is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Southeast Slovenia Statistical Region.

[3] The local church from which the settlement gets its name is built on the eastern outskirts of the settlement and is dedicated to the Nativity of Mary.

It is an originally Gothic building remodelled in 1871.
