1916 Iowa Senate election

The 1916 Iowa Senate elections took place as part of the biennial 1916 United States elections.

The primary election on June 5, 1916, determined which candidates appeared on the November 7, 1916 general election ballot.

To claim control of the chamber from Republicans, the Democrats needed to net 11 Senate seats.

Republicans maintained control of the Iowa State Senate following the 1916 general election with the balance of power shifting to Republicans holding 40 seats and Democrats having 10 seats (a net gain of 5 seats for Republicans).
