1918 Elgin Burghs by-election

The 1918 Elgin Burghs by-election was a parliamentary by-election held for the British House of Commons constituency of the Elgin Burghs in the north-east of Scotland on 25 October 1918.

The by-election was caused by the death of the sitting Liberal MP, John Sutherland on 17 August 1918.

Sutherland had represented Elgin Burghs since 1905 and by the time of the December 1910 general election, he was so entrenched in his seat that he was returned unopposed.

No other candidate came forward to contest the by-election and Barrie was therefore returned unopposed.
