On March 31, 1924, Courtright announced his resignation as athletic director and head coach from the University of Nevada, effective at the end of the school year.
Courtright took a post as head coach at Colorado School of Mines.

He later played quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Buccaneers.
