[1] Carlisle City fielded a team, but resigned after 10 matches and their record was expunged from the table.

[2] Swinton moved from their Chorley Road ground this season due to a dispute over rent.

They built a new stadium at Station Road, Swinton using the stands from the old ground.

Wigan beat Dewsbury 13–2 in the first final to be played at Wembley Stadium in front of a crowd of 41,000.
