The 1946–47 Chicago Stags season was the first season of the now defunct Chicago Stags of the Basketball Association of America (BAA/NBA).
[1] Before this season even began, the Chicago Stags were originally meant to start out as the Chicago Atomics, to the point of even playing an exhibition game against the New York Knicks under that moniker before they later played as the Chicago Basketball Club, Inc. for one more exhibition game before they officially became the Chicago Stags for the rest of their existence onward.
[2] Despite the tumultuous start with the team name in mind, the Stags would still finish with a 38–22 record, later reaching as far as the inaugural BAA/NBA Finals series, where they would ultimately lose to the Philadelphia Warriors (now known as the Golden State Warriors) 4–1.
