The 1949 Western Carolina Catamounts team represented Western Carolina Teachers College (WCTC)—now known as Western Carolina University—as a member of the North State Conference (NSC) during the 1949 college football season.
Led by fourth-year head coach Tom Young, the Catamounts compiled an overall record of 8–3 with a mark of 4–0 in conference play, winning the NSC title.
[1] Western Carolina was invited to the Smoky Mountain Bowl, where the Catamounts lost to West Liberty.
The team employed a Single-wing formation on offense.
