1961 San Francisco 49ers season

The 1961 San Francisco 49ers season was the franchise's 12th season in the National Football League, their 16th overall, and their second season under head coach Red Hickey.

The 49ers attempted to improve on their 7–5 season from the previous season, and make the playoffs for the first time since 1957.

However, despite starting the season 4–1, they would lose 5 of their last 8 games, finishing their season 7–6–1, and they missed the playoffs for the 4th straight year.
