1974 New Year Honours

The New Year Honours 1974 were appointments in many of the Commonwealth realms of Queen Elizabeth II to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by citizens of those countries.

They were announced on 1 January 1974 to celebrate the year passed and mark the beginning of 1974.

At this time honours for Australians were still being awarded in the UK honours on the advice of the premiers of Australian states.

State of New South Wales State of Victoria State of Queensland Military Division Civil Division State of New South Wales State of Victoria State of Queensland At this time the two lowest classes of the Royal Victorian Order were "Member (fourth class)" and "Member (fifth class)", both with post-nominals MVO.

"Member (fourth class)" was renamed "Lieutenant" (LVO) from the 1985 New Year Honours onwards.
