These are the official results of the Women's 1,500 metres event at the 1983 IAAF World Championships in Helsinki, Finland.
There were a total number of 26 participating athletes, with three qualifying heats and the final held on Sunday 14th August 1983.
True to her form, Decker took the lead from the gun, with a large pack surrounding her.
On the final straight, Decker moved into lane 2 and started to make a run at Zaytseva, gaining slightly.
Two awkward steps of flailing and reminiscent of Yevgeniy Arzhanov a decade earlier, Zaytseva dived for the finish line from four meters out.
