1989 Dyfed County Council election

The fifth election to Dyfed County Council was held in May 1989.

There were extensive boundary changes at this election.

The Independents remained the largest party with Labour the nearest challenger.

Dewi Lewis, who previously represented Cardigan, chose to contest Aberporth on this occasion after the siting Liberal member retired.

The previous Cardigan ward was renamed Aberteifi.

The siting member, Dewi Lewis, chose to contest Aberporth instead.
