These are the official results of the Men's Long Jump event at the 1991 IAAF World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
There were a total number of 43 participating athletes, with two qualifying groups and the final held on Friday August 30, 1991.
This was perhaps the greatest long jump competition ever, as both of the top two athletes achieved distances beyond the then world record which had stood for almost 23 years (though one was over the wind-legal limit of 2.0 m/s).
The closeness of the call upset Powell: he went down to his knees at the board trying to see the microscopic indentation into the plasticine indicating it was a foul.
It was the only time American network television, in this case NBC, devoted over 20 minutes to a single field event competition.
