The 2001 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 114th staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition.
Tipperary won the championship, beating Galway 2-18 to 2-15 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin.
The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was run on a provincial basis as usual.
All games were played on a knockout basis whereby once a team lost they were eliminated from the championship.
The format for the All-Ireland series of games ran as follows: Promoted from the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship Regraded to the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship Twenty-one counties will compete in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship: one team in the Connacht Senior Hurling Championship, ten teams in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship, five teams in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship and five teams in the Ulster Senior Hurling Championship.
