County Kilkenny was divided into 3 local electoral areas to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV).
In addition, Kilkenny Borough Council was abolished.
Fianna Fáil became the largest party securing 10 seats, a gain of 3.
Malcolm Noonan of the Greens was re-elected in Kilkenny city and Independents secured the final seat.
