Kansas State entered the season ranked #20 in the preseason polls, and were predicted as one of the teams that could win the Big 12 Conference.

The Wildcats then won 5-straight games to improve to 7-1, including a 31-30 win over Oklahoma, and rose to #7 in the rankings.

They started the season 4–0, often struggling, before suffering consecutive home losses to the Utah Utes and Oregon Ducks.
