The Yellow Jackets were led by eighth-year head coach Paul Johnson and played their home games at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

This was the first time since 1996 that the Yellow Jackets finished with a losing record, breaking their streak of 18 consecutive bowl games.

After losing back-to-back games to Duke and North Carolina, the Yellow Jackets won out the rest of its regular season, which was capped off with a 30-24 overtime victory over Georgia.
