It is the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county club hurling tournament.
On 17 March 2017, Cuala won the championship following a 2–19 to 1–10 defeat of Ballyea in the All-Ireland final.
They failed to make it out of the group stage of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship.
Connacht do not organise a provincial championship and are represented in the All-Ireland semi-finals by the Galway champions.
The All-Ireland final is traditionally played in Croke Park on St. Patrick's Day, the 17th of March.
