The reason for this change in promotion and relegation spots was that the Danish Superliga was reduced to 12 teams following this season.

Silkeborg IF and Lyngby Boldklub were promoted to the 2019–20 Danish Superliga.

Skive IK and Kolding IF won promotion from the 2018–19 Danish 2nd Divisions.

Skive will play at the 1st Division won promotion after only one season's absence, where as Kolding won promotion for the first time since 2010–11 season, when the club was part of Kolding FC.
