The 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season began on November 9, 2021.

The regular season ended on March 6, 2022, with the 2022 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament beginning on March 18, and ending with the championship game at the Target Center in Minneapolis on April 3.

Other news: Eleven schools joined new conferences for the 2021–22 season, including St. Thomas that is transitioning directly from NCAA Division III.

Each of the 32 Division I athletic conferences will end its regular season with a single-elimination tournament.

For this list, an "upset" is defined as a win by a team seeded 5 or more spots below its defeated opponent.

The NCAA does not recognize Sporting News as an All-America selector in women's basketball.
