2021 Buckinghamshire Council election

Majority administration Conservative Majority administration Conservative The 2021 Buckinghamshire Council election took place on 6 May 2021, alongside nationwide local elections.

[2] It was the inaugural election to Buckinghamshire Council, a unitary authority created on 1 April 2020 as part of structural changes to English local government.

Buckinghamshire Council replaced Buckinghamshire County Council, last elected in 2017.

[3] In order to secure a majority, a party needed to secure 74 seats.

The Conservative Party took an overall majority with 113 seats; the Liberal Democrats came second, with 15 seats.

[1] Due to the postponement of the 2020 local elections until 2021, it was announced on 18 March 2020 that all of the current shadow authority members would become councillors and the shadow executive members would form the cabinet.

[4] They remained in post until the inaugural election took place in May 2021.

[54] A by-election was held on 30 June 2022 following the resignation of Cllr Cameron Branston.

A by-election was held following the resignation of Cllr Paul Bass.

The Buckingham East by-election was triggered by the resignation of Conservative councillor Warren Whyte.

[55] A by-election was held on 22 February 2024 following the resignation of Cllr David Anthony.

A by-election was held on 22 February 2024 following the death of Cllr Ron Gaffney.
