The Timberwolves failed to improve on their 46–36 record from last year after losing to the Toronto Raptors 107–122 on March 18, but they were able to finish with a winning record in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2004 and 2005 after beating the New Orleans Pelicans 113–108 on April 9 and participated in the play-in tournament for a second straight season.
However, they lost in the first round to the eventual NBA champion Denver Nuggets in five games.
This was the first time since 2003 and 2004 that the Timberwolves made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.
It was the first season with Rudy Gobert after the team acquired him in a preseason trade on July 6, 2022, where they traded five different players (including the draft rights to Walker Kessler) and five first round picks (including a 2026 first round pick swap) to the Utah Jazz.
