The team is led by first-year head coach Dru Joyce III and plays their home games at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10).

They defeated Saint Louis, Dayton, St. Bonaventure and VCU to win the A-10 tournament championship.

As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament marking the sixth trip to the NCAA tournament in school history and first since 1977.
