The race was rated as a category 2.Pro event on the 2024 UCI ProSeries calendar, and was the 22nd edition of the Tour of Qinghai Lake.

Two UCI WorldTeams, five UCI ProTeams, and fifteen UCI Continental teams made up the 22 teams that participated in the race.
