2025 New York City Council election

Pre-consolidation: Post-consolidation: Pre-consolidation: Post-consolidation: The 2025 New York City Council elections will be held on November 4, 2025, with primary elections occurring on June 24, 2025.

[1] Party nominees will be chosen using ranked-choice voting.

Eight council members (all Democrats) are prevented from seeking a third consecutive term due to term limits that were renewed by voters in a ballot referendum in 2010.

[2] During the 2023–2025 council session, two incumbents (one Democratic, one Republican) have resigned before the election.

Two special elections will be held in 2025; special elections to the council are officially non-partisan and use ranked-choice voting.

A special election to the 44th district will be held on March 25 to fill the vacancy caused by Democrat Kalman Yeger's resignation to join the New York State Assembly.

[4] A special election to the 51st district will be held on April 28 to fill the vacancy caused by Republican Joe Borelli's resignation to join the private sector.

A nonpartisan special election will be held on March 25, 2025 to fill this seat, which was vacated after Democratic incumbent Kalman Yeger was elected to the New York State Assembly.

Incumbent Speaker Adrienne Adams is term limited and can not run for re-election, paving the way for an open speakership election in 2026.
