[8]: 23 In September 2012, a rotational lightcurve of Döllen was obtained from photometric observations by French amateur astronomer René Roy.
Lightcurve analysis gave a tentative rotation period of 10 hours with a brightness amplitude of 0.10 magnitude (U=2-).
[3][7] According to the survey carried out by the NEOWISE mission of NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, Döllen measures 3.389 kilometers in diameter and its surface has an albedo of 0.465,[5][6] while the Collaborative Asteroid Lightcurve Link assumes an albedo of 0.24 – derived from 8 Flora, the parent body of the Flora family – and calculates a diameter of 3.74 kilometers based on an absolute magnitude of 14.3.
[3] This minor planet was named after German astronomer Wilhelm Döllen (1820–1897), for his discussion on errors of heliometer observations.
