8th World Scout Jamboree

The Jamboree saw the introduction of the World Membership Badge which is still worn on the uniforms of Scouts worldwide.

The setting was a rolling parkland on the Commons of Fort George National Historic Site.

There are some incredible tales of the efforts made by Scouts to attend the Jamboree, with the New Zealand contingent leaving four months ahead of the event and traveling over 30,000 miles on the way.

A call went out to all district council members, communities and companies for volunteers to put the camp back in shape.

[5] The 50th Anniversary of the Jamboree was celebrated in September 2005 at which time a plaque[6] commemorating the event was unveiled.

The Jamboree was heralded by a commemorative stamp issued in 1955.
