Instead, he studied the Koran in Lütfü Efendi Madrasa, located in the village of Alembey, until he could graduate later on from the local primary school.
Mahzunu was heavily influenced by a Kurdish Alevi village called Kaşanli in Afşin.
He bestowed friends such as Perişan Ali, Vicdani, Malaki Gozal (Perisan Güzel)and many others from the Kaşanli village which is renowned in the region for its musical history.
After Mahzuni left the army, he started to become a public poet by continuing to traditional Turkish Folk poetry.
