Randolph was involved in campaigns to improve wages and working conditions for black and white alike.

As a long-time advocate for civil rights, he pressured President Franklin D. Roosevelt to order an end to discrimination in war industries, in federal employment, and in the armed services.

As a chairman of the 1963 March on Washington, Randolph fought for the oppressed races with a strict adherence to democratic principles.
