Abatar (Persian: اباتر)[a] is a village in, and the capital of, Abatar Rural District of Taher Gurab District, Sowme'eh Sara County, Gilan province, Iran.

[4] At the time of the 2006 National Census, the village's population was 1,822 in 528 households, when it was in Taher Gurab Rural District of the Central District.

[6] The 2016 census measured the population of the village as 1,538 people in 552 households.

It was the most populous village in its rural district.
