It has sparsely to moderately hairy branchlets than can be coated in a white powder.

The phyllodes are often convex with a broadly elliptic to orbicular shape having a length of 10 to 25 m (33 to 82 ft) and a width of 9 to 20 mm (0.35 to 0.79 in).

[3] The simple inflorescences have spherical flower-heads with a diameter of 9 to 11 mm (0.35 to 0.43 in) containing 25 to 75 densely packed deep yellow flowers.

[2] The species was first formally described by the botanist Allan Cunningham in 1835 as part of William Jackson Hooker's work Botanical Magazine.

It was reclassified as Racosperma sertiforme by Leslie Pedley in 2003 and then transferred back to genus Acacia in 2006.
