[8] Goldman skipped journalism school and instead started to work at newspapers in Virginia and Alabama where he covered police officers and city hall.

[8] He moved to New York as an assignment reporter in 2005 and covered many breaking stories such as a Miracle on the Hudson and an attempted 2009 plot to bomb the subway system.

[11] In 2012, Goldman shared numerous awards with Matt Apuzzo, Eileen Sullivan, and Chris Hawley of the Associated Press for their investigative series on the New York Police Department's spying program involving Muslim communities.
