Adityapur is part of the Greater Jamshedpur, under the Indian government's Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Adityapur is named after Raja Aditya Pratap Singh Deo (1887-1969), the last ruler of Seraikela State.
