[1] It was aimed at 16 to 19 year olds, and it accompanied a plan to increase the level of English and Maths taught to this age group.

[2] The proposal was intended to bring together A-Levels and T-Levels into a single new qualification, with students being able to take a wide mix of technical and academic subjects.

The proposal had been announced by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the Conservative Party Conference in October 2023.

[6] Sky News noted that the forthcoming general election created uncertainty about the future of the proposal.

[7] On July 29th 2024, the newly elected Labour government’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, announced the proposed qualification was being cancelled with immediate effect, citing budget constraints in place at that time.
