In the year 2002, he became the second Basque and Spaniard (after Juanito Oiarzabal) and the 10th person to climb the 14 eight-thousanders.
He was 33 years old when he completed the eight-thousanders which made him the youngest person at the time to climb all 14.
Iñurrategi climbed the peaks in alpine style using few lines or sherpas and no bottled oxygen.
In 2017, together with the Basque mountaineers Juan Vallejo and Mikel Zabalza, Iñurrategi was recognized by the Spanish Consejo Superior de Deportes, for rescuing the Italian Valerio Annovazzi from Gasherbrum II.
