[1] He was a councilor in the Municipal Assembly of Zvezdara for two terms (1992–1996) and was elected Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) member of the Assembly of the City of Belgrade three times.
From 2004 to 2008, he was the President of the SPS parliamentary group in the Assembly of the City of Belgrade.
In 2013, he became a Minister of Transportation in the Government of Ivica Dačić, and served until the 2014 Serbian parliamentary election, after which he became a Minister of Mining and Energy per 27 April 2014 in the Government of Aleksandar Vučić.
[1] While talking to the press on 4 December 2014 he was hit by an approximately three-kilogram chunk of ice that fell from a powerline.
