Alex Gough (luger)

[6] As a surprise member of the 2006 Olympic team for Canada, the 18 year old Gough finished an aspiring 20th place.

[5] Gough would continue building on her career towards the 2010 Winter Olympics taking place on home soil in Vancouver.

She was hoping to have her Olympic medal breakthrough at these games but following the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili in training, the start and course was changed.

[5] The victory broke a 105 race German winning streak in women's luge events.

At the 2013 World Championships Gough was a double medalist, winning silver in the mixed team relay and a bronze in the women's singles.

On her way to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Gough looked like a solid medal hopeful based on her recent results and her second overall position in the 2013–14 Luge World Cup.

As part of the Canadian luge relay team she would win two more bronze medals in 2015 and 2016 at the World Championships.

Gough spoke of her long road to Canada's first Olympic medal in luge saying "Ten years of grinding — hard, tough work, a lot of ups and downs — and finally winning an Olympic medal, the first for Canada, unbelievable.

"[10] The medal run would continue in South Korea when Gough won silver in the mixed team relay with Edney, Justin Snith, and Tristan Walker.
