Alexander Kapitokhin

Alexander Grigoryevich Kapitokhin (Russian: Александр Григорьевич Капитохин; 6 June 1892 – 13 August 1958)[1] was a Red Army Lieutenant general.

[3] Kapitokhin was born in Kamenka-Loginovka village, Yeletsky Uyezd, Oryol Governorate.

As part of the 11th Rifle Division, Kapitokhin fought in the Estonian War of Independence and against forces commanded by Stanisław Bułak-Bałachowicz.

[8] He became a reservist[4] and was the chief of the Office of Defence Mobilization of the Central Union of Consumer Societies.

[1] For his work in the Arctic, Kapitokhin was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honour[4] and given the title "Honorary Polar Explorer".

[3] After Operation Barbarossa Kapitokhin was placed at the disposal of the Military Council of the Odessa Defence Region.

[13] Kapitokhin fought in the Siege of Sevastopol and commanded the 4th sector of the city's defences during the final assault.

For actions in the defence of Sevastopol, Kapitokhin was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.

[3] On 29 August Kapitokhin became the commander of the 10th Airborne Corps[1] in the Moscow Military District.

[17] The Dnieper Airborne Operation was a failure,[18] and Kapitokhin was demoted afterwards for alleged incompetence.

[5] Kapitokhin was appointed chief of the Tambov Suvorov Military School in November 1945.
