Allegheny Township is located in western Blair County.

The borough of Tunnelhill where it enters Blair County also borders the west side of the township.

Communities within the township include Canan Station, Carson Valley, Cross Keys, Sunbrook, and most of Foot of Ten, all in the eastern part of the township.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 6,965 people, 2,658 households, and 1,836 families residing in the township.

27.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
