[4] Sehrawat was born on 16 July 2003 in the village of Birohar, Haryana, where he initially took part in mud wrestling.
Inspired by Sushil Kumar's silver medal win in the 2012 Summer Olympics, he enrolled at the Chhatrasal Stadium in North Delhi at the age of 10.
His uncle Sudhir revealed in an interview with Hindustan Times that Sehrawat struggled with depression and anxiety after his mother's death.
