Andrés Gómez

Andrés Gómez Santos (Latin American Spanish: [anˈdɾes ˈɣomes ˈsantos];[a] born 27 February 1960) is an Ecuadorian former professional tennis player.

[1] His nephew Nicolás Lapentti was also a professional tennis player who reached a world ranking of No.

Gómez won a second Grand Slam men's doubles title in 1988 at the French Open (partnering Emilio Sánchez).

He beat Fernando Luna, Marcelo Filippini, Alexander Volkov, Magnus Gustafsson, Thierry Champion, and Thomas Muster to reach the final.

The up-and-coming American star was considered the favourite, but Gómez seized the moment and claimed the title with a four-set win.
