An Evangelical Protestant committed to the neo-Reformational paradigm of Abraham Kuyper, Herman Bavinck, Herman Dooyeweerd, and Cornelius Van Til, Sandlin is a critic of both conservative and progressive theological trends.

He is considered an extreme Christian Reconstructionist by Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
