Andrey Smirnov (curler)

As a child Smirnov did speed skating, but after an accident at the age of 12, when he fell into an elevator pit on a building site, he performed sports including arm wrestling,[1] darts, tennis and basketball.

[2] Besides his success in international tournaments Smirnov won bronze at the 2011-12 Russian National Championships.

[3] He is a member of the local sports club "Rodnik" in Yekaterinburg.
