[1] In 2006, he received the Polish Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Feliks Falk's drama film The Collector.
The largest role so far that brought him recognition was as Gerard Nowak in the 1999 film The Debt (Dług) by Krzysztof Krauze, for which he was awarded the Best Actor award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
The success of this was continued in 2005 when he received the Polish Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Komornik.
In 2007, he starred in Andrzej Wajda's Academy Award-nominated historical drama film Katyń.
In 2015, he was awarded the Konrad Swinarski Prize for directing Paweł Mykietyn's opera Czarodziejska góra based on Thomas Mann's novel The Magic Mountain.
