Annette Elizabeth Salmeen (born December 7, 1974)[1] is an American biochemist, a 1997 Rhodes Scholar[2] and a gold medalist at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

[4] Salmeen went on to swim at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she was a co-captain, four-time All-American, and an NCAA national champion in the 200-yard butterfly.

[5] She won a bronze medal in the 200-meter butterfly[6] at the 1995 World University Games in Fukuoka, Japan.

[7] Salmeen graduated from UCLA in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to pursue a Doctorate of Philosophy (D.
