The species is endemic to Puerto Rico.
[2] The specific name, krugi, is in honor of German botanist Karl Wilhelm Leopold Krug, co-collector of the holotype.
[3] The holotype of A. krugi has a total length of 17 cm (6.7 in), including the tail which is more than twice the length of the head and body.
[4] The preferred natural habitat of A. krugi is forest, at altitudes from sea level to 1,200 m (3,900 ft).
[2] A. krugi is a member of the Anolis cristatellus species group.
