During the Second World War, in 1941, an RAF station was built in the townland of Kinrush in Ardboe.
The RAF kept the airfield ticking over and it was reopened in 1952 as a training station for pilots going to the Korean War.
Many previous Gaelic football clubs existed including St John's Mullan and Kinturk.
[citation needed] Ardboe, while a large parish, is classified as a 'small village' by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).
