He attended the Baku Combined Arms Command School and later the Leningrad Military Academy of Rear Services and Transportation.

He continued his military service in the Soviet Army in Leninakan (modern-day Gyumri), East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Belarus, and Yerevan.
