It has been awarded to the most successful Austrian musicians since 2000, and has been held in the Volkstheater in Vienna each March since 2012.
The awards ceremony was founded by IFPI Austria in 2000, and was broadcast by the Austrian national broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF).
In 2008, the broadcasters Puls 4 and ProSiebenSat.1 Media began hosting the ceremony together.
Since 2012, the ceremony has been held in Volkstheater, after previously being held in Gasometer B, Kunsthalle Wien, and Wiener Stadthalle.
